K2.75B worth of heroin seized in Kalay township

Myanmar Police Force announced the seizure of 55 kilogrammes of heroin in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of K2.75 billion.
Upon tip-off, a combined Anti-Drug Police Force unit stopped a six-wheeled Mitsubishi Fuso container truck on the Kalay-Kalewa road in Kalay Township at 5 pm on 31 May. The car was driven by Win Aung Htun and accompanied by Tin Maung Hla. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 55 kilogrammes of heroin concealed within 5,500 plastic soup boxes.
Two further arrests were made. Thaut Nay Lwal (aka) Pal Lwal and his wife, Ma Aye Aye Myint, were believed to transport the heroin.
The suspects admitted that the drugs were to be transported from Shan State to Kalay Township, Sagaing Region. Police charged those arrested and continued to investigate others suspected of involvement in this case. — MNA/MKKS
