The Ministry of Energy has announced plans to acquire international technology and expertise to drill deep wells in old oil fields successfully.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that two new wells to be drilled in the 2024-2025 financial year will yield oil. Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise will oversee the drilling of these wells, with technological assistance and expertise of MPRL E&P Company.
These approved wells aim to reach target depths and establish new milestones in oil production history, as previous attempts have struggled to produce oil from promising hydrocarbon-bearing sands deep underground.
In addition to research efforts and technological advancements to enhance production in mature oil fields, officials are also focusing on coordination and knowledge-sharing.
The Ministry of Energy is taking measures for the country’s energy security and drilling deep wells in old oil fields and producing oil and natural gas are integral components of its strategy. — ASH/KZL
