Premium rice price stable; non-premium rice price high post-Thingyan Festival

According to the information from the Myanmar Rice Miller Association (MRMA), domestic premium rice price remains stable after Myanmar New Year holidays. However, the non-premium rice prices increase from K1,000 to K3,000 per bag.
On 12 April, before Thingyan Festival, varieties of rice prices in the Yangon market were as follow: Shwebo Pawsan K135,000 per bag; Kyapyan (good quality) K115,000 per bag; Pyapon Pawsan K110,000; Myaungmya/Pathein Pawsan K110,000; Pawsan from various towns K110,000; and Dedaye Pawsan was K100,000 per bag respectively.
Furthermore, Pawkywe was priced at K92,000 per bag; Khuni (good quality) K93,000; double-crop (good quality) K78,000; Theepu (good quality) K74,000; non-premium new Aemahta K78,000; Aemahta (25 per cent) non-premium new K70,000; and Ngasein K72,000 respectively, according to the MRMA.
On 24 April, after Thingyan holidays, prices of varieties of Pawsan rice, Pawkywe and Khuni (good quality) stay still. However, double-crop (good quality), Theepu (good quality), non-premium new Aemahta, new Aemahta (25 per cent) and Ngasein rice prices have declined from K1,000 to K3,000 per bag respectively, the MRMA stated.
As the domestic rice prices skyrocketed within these months, the MRMA has engaged selling rice to the public at 58 member shops from 18 townships in Yangon Region with reasonable prices since 16 February.
According to the abovementioned announcement by the MRMA, the association has been selling Aemahta rice with K3,300 per pyi to the public on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday under the steering of the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF). A total of 18 townships are Hlinethaya, Shwepyitha, South Dagon, North Okkalapa, North Dagon, Dagon Seikkan, East Dagon, Hmawby, Thingangyun, Thakayta, Pazundaung, Dawbon, Dala, Kyimyindine, Ahlon, Seikkyi Khanaungto, Mingaladon and Insein.
The report further states that departmental personnel and employees from factories and workplaces who needs helps can directly contact the MRF, the Wahdan Wholesale Centre and the Bayintnaung Wholesale Centre for purchasing rice. — NN/TMT
