Bayintnaung market records 3-day 4,800 tonnes of black gram transaction

A total of 200 containers (4,800 tonnes) of black grams comprising 160 containers of black grams (Fair Average Quality) and 40 containers of black grams (Special Quality) were transacted at the Bayintnaung commodity wholesale centre in the past three days of market opening.
The black gram was offered K3 million per tonne. The total trading value of 4,800 tonnes was K14.4 billion.
Additionally, 95 containers (2,280 tonnes) were also traded between 18 and 23 March. The trading volumes were registered at 65 containers of black grams in January, 160 in February and 560 in March, respectively, totalling 785 containers.
Similarly, 280 containers of pigeon peas were transacted, with 155 in January, 50 in February and 75 in March. The non-governmental organizations of pulses notified the traders not to attempt market manipulation.
India, the leading importer of Myanmar’s pulse, is also controlling the market to stop the price rise potential.
The pulse price is relatively stable in March. Black gram price was only K2.9 million per tonne in the last week of March, plunging from K3.5 million per tonne on 5 February. The prices stood at K3,830 per viss of green grams and K5,425-K5,700 per viss of chickpeas on 28 March. — TWA/KK
