Appointment of Indian Ambassador agreed on

The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the appointment of Mr Abhay Thakur as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in succession to Mr Vinay Kumar.
Mr Abhay Thakur was born on 1 September 1969 and holds a Post Graduate in Industrial Engineering. In 1992, he joined the Indian Foreign Service as an Attaché/ Probationer on training and has held various diplomatic capacities at the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India as well as the Embassy of India in the Russian Federation, the Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom, the Indian Embassy in Israel, the Consulate-General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. He also served as High Commissioner of India to Mauritius from August 2016 to January 2019 and to Nigeria from January 2019 to December 2021.
Since December 2021, he has been serving as Sous Sherpa of India for G20 in New Delhi. He is married with one son and one daughter. — MNA
