Visitors start rushing to book Thingyan package tours

Eager local visitors have already booked some tour packages for Thingyan, which is due to arrive in April, according to travel companies and visitors.

“There are ticket bookings for Thingyan. Advanced bookings have been already made at Chaungthar and Ngwesaung, and they are likely to be larger in the second half of the month. People go on vacations in Thingyan because it has long holidays,” said an official from a travel company.

A woman who had made preparation to take vacation in Thingyan period said she has booked at Chaungthar Beach to relax with her family.

“Thingyan has long holidays, so visitors usually flock to beaches, that is why I have already booked. We are planning to go to Chaungthar for relaxation,” said Ma Yati from Botahtaung township.

In addition to Bagan, Kalaw, Inle, Taunggyi, Chaungthar, Ngwesaung and the beaches near Yangon, local visitors have also taken day trips to newly developed destinations and overseas trips in recent years.

In Myanmar tourism industry, domestic tourism sector has sharply increased and the foreign tourist arrival has also mounted in 2023. By November 2023, local visitor arrival was 8.85 million and foreign tourist arrival again reached more than 1 million, enormously increased back compared to the previous year, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
