National University of Arts and Culture (Yangon) launched initiatives to standardize national costumes of various ethnic groups.
This move aims to preserve the authenticity of the original designs for relevant ethnic peoples, as additions and innovations could potentially alter their cultural significance.
Representatives from different ethnic literature and cultural groups, university faculty, and external experts have already engaged in discussions on this matter. Myanmar is home to 135 ethnic groups, with eight major groups. The initiative will prioritize the standardization of the national costumes of these major ethnicities. This effort will involve field studies and consultations with respective cultural organizations.
