Passports issued as usual, rumour-mongers to be identified and punished

The issuance of passports is as usual with regular verification process and the brokers who demand large sums of money after spreading rumours will be detected and punished, according to the Myanmar Passport Office.

The Myanmar Passport Office issued the statement after the public became concerned about online rumours on passport issuance.

Under the normal process, 2700 passports are issued daily at the Yangon office through online booking QR system and other branches in Nay Pyi Taw, Myitkyina, Haka, Loikaw, Magway, Mandalay, Monywa, Taunggyi, Kengtung, Lashio, Tachilek, Hpa-an, Myawady, Mawlamyine, Dawei, Kawthoung, Pathein, Sittway and Bago issue their respective specified number of passports per working day.

Despite public concerns over rumours, passports will continue to be issued in the regular numbers under the normal procedures for legitimate travellers.
Moreover, the brokers who were demanding large sums of money by spreading rumours would be identified and punished, it said.
