Centenary celebration of Lacquerware College (Bagan) commemorated

Lacquerware College (Bagan) commemorated its centenary with a ceremony yesterday morning, attended by Deputy Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Myint Soe, Transport Minister of Mandalay Region Government U Aung Zaw Oo, departmental personnel, the college principal and instructors, lacquerware technicians, entrepreneurs, and students.
During the event, both the deputy minister and the Mandalay region transport minister delivered opening speeches, inaugurating the 100th-anniversary commemoration by cutting the ribbon at the stone pillar.
Following this, the deputy minister met with the college principal and teachers, stressing the importance of preserving Myanmar’s traditional lacquerware art. He urged them to expand the production of lacquerware crafts both domestically and internationally, ensuring systematic instruction for students. Subsequently, he conducted an inspection of the college campus and addressed any needs.
Located in the historic city of Bagan in NyaungU District of Mandalay Region, Lacquerware College aims to preserve and promote Myanmar’s traditional lacquerware, impart modern techniques while maintaining traditional methods, produce more lacquerware technicians, enhance teaching methods, and nurture skilled artisans. The college was founded in 1924.
Additionally, the deputy minister met with trainees of basic and advanced one-stroke engine repair courses in Hsegon village, Meiktila Township, addressing their needs.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister conversed with district- and township-level departmental staff, stressing the importance of refraining from corruption and party politics. He encouraged mutual respect, unity within the department, and welfare provision for employees through coordination. — MNA/TRKM
