Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn participated in a forum on the “Prevention of Toxic Media” forum and “State Building and Media Role” with the students from universities and colleges in Mandalay at Yadanabon Hall in Mandalay yesterday.
It was attended by Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, departmental officials, Rectors, Pro-Rectors and faculty members of relevant universities and colleges.
Speaking at the event, the Union Minister said the youths have high technological exposure today, and there is also an endless bombardment of news in the technology era. Meanwhile, some media outlets intentionally create situations to put the country in serious trouble. Fake news and misinformation cause undesirable situations. It should also be considered whether the news is right or wrong without basing it on emotion. Only the emotion can cause delusion.
The Union minister then stated the role of media in highlighting the activities of the government, duties of youths, the primary focus of the Prime Minister on youth sectors, the need for stability and unity in nation-building tasks, urging students to serve national cause after finishing their degrees, and encouraging the students to become reliable youths and treasures of the country.
Then, the region’s chief minister talked about the role of media that controls the other three pillars – legislative, executive, and judiciary – as the fourth pillar and the role of university students as the essential human resource in building a nation.
The Union minister and the chief minister drew lots of five MRTV DTH satellite dishes and 100 DVB T2 Set Top Boxes for the faculty members and students.
A total of 1,090 participants, including rectors, faculty members and students from 12 universities and colleges in Mandalay Region, joined the event.
The Union minister headed to the charity food donation event of New Starlight Group of Companies to mark Chinese New Year at Mingala Mandalay Shopping Complex on the same evening and observed the complex areas. — MNA/KTZH
