The Bagan Archaeological Museum in NyaungU Township, Mandalay Region, collected an entrance fee of K38.526 million from a total of 8,483 home-grown and overseas travellers who visited the museum from April to December of the 2023–2024 financial year, according to officials from the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan Branch).
Over nine months, 8,483 visitors — 123 foreigners and 8,360 locals — visited the Bagan Archaeological Museum.
“The arrival of local and foreign visitors in Bagan is not the same as in the past. It is not a situation where the visitor arrivals are high when the travel season arrives. The visitors come here even during the rainy season. The Bagan Archaeological Museum earned K38.526 million from visitors this financial year. The last financial year 2022-2023 saw a total of 83,761 visitors — 83,433 domestic and 328 international travellers — visiting the museum,” said Daw Thuza Zan, Assistant Director of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan Branch).
The Bagan Archaeological Museum had been closed to control the spread of COVID-19 since 15 March 2020, and it was reopened on 28 October 2021. The museum is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm, except Mondays and public holidays.
Currently, the Department of Archaeology and National Museum is working to establish digital museums so that overseas and internal travellers can easily visit the facilities online. — ASH/MKKS/ED
