Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin stated on 23 January that, with increased natural gas production, measures will be implemented to promote the widespread use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the transport sector. During a coordination meeting on CNG vehicles, he made these remarks to enhance public transport safety and efficiency.
The Union minister highlighted ongoing efforts to meet the fuel demands and steps taken to boost the production of inland natural gas to cater to the needs of CNG-utilizing vehicles. Emphasizing the global use of CNG to reduce environmental pollution, he stressed the reduction of queuing time at CNG stations and prioritized passenger safety in CNG-equipped vehicles. The Union minister called for close collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and other relevant departments and organizations to achieve these objectives.
There are 46 CNG filling stations in Yangon, Mandalay, and Magway. They distribute 20 million cubic feet of inland and offshore natural gas to 28,301 CNG vehicles per day. — TWA/ TRKM
