MoU workers to be sent by Yangon-Don Mueang flight for their convenience

Yangon-Don Mueang flight will be used to send MoU workers to Thailand for the convenience of the workers, according to Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation (MOEAF).

The director-level video conferencing meeting between Thailand and Myanmar on 3 January 2024 made an agreement to use Yangon and Don Mueang airports when they dispatch workers under MoU.

“Yes, workers are going to be sent from Don Mueang airport. There are only two options for sending of MoU workers, they are Myawady and Kawthoung routes. Myawady route has been blocked, so our workers are in troubles. Kawthoung route has been unblocked now but roads can’t be used and air ticket fee costs from K150,000 to 450,000. That is why, MOEAF suggested that the Ministry of Labour to consider using Yangon-Don Mueang airport because it is still cheap. The two countries’ officials discussed it and both sides accepted,” said MOEAF official.

Yangon-Don Mueang flight is expected to begin sending workers in February and all necessary arrangements are nearly complete.

Agencies can also send workers through commercial or charter flights. They don’t need to report Thailand aviation authority if they send by commercial flights but reporting to Thailand aviation authority as well as the Ministry of Transport and Communications via the Ministry of Labour is necessary if they send by charter flights.

When workers arrive at Don Mueang airport, Thailand immigration authority would grant 2-year residence permit and employer or employer’s agent would pick them up at Don Mueang airport and they would undergo medical checkup in areas where they would work, after checkup, reporting to employment department is necessary.

Certification of completion of medical checkup and visa would be issued at respective working avenue and work permit would be issued when they complete training.
