Since late 2023, potato price has fallen till January this year and there is likelihood of continued falling for next three months, according to sources from potato trading.

“As usual, potato market has been falling during this period. We have also expected the falling price to continue next three months,” said a potato trader from Momauk township.

In the monsoon season of 2023, wholesale price of potato climbed up to K2500 a viss and declined to K1900 a viss as from last September, the end of monsoon, till now.

“Potato price was K2500-K2600 in last monsoon. Now it is K1900. The potato market is usually low during this period, and it is likely to continue to decline in next few months. The price has gone down compared to previous times,” said a potato trader.

Further, at this time, there is a mass production of vegetables in Shan State and Kachin State which are the largest potato producers, resulting in a low potato market, according to sources from potato trading.
