Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MoNREC) said on 31 December that planting economically significant trees is instrumental in restoring the forest’s status and reducing dependency on natural forests.
During an inspection tour, the MONREC Union Minister visited various sites, including 350 acres of ironwood trees planted in the 2023 rainy season at Plot 21, 400 acres of ironwood fields planted in the 2022 rainy season at Plot 22, and 350 acres of ironwood trees planted in the 2021 rainy season at Plot 30 in Thalatkwa forest reserve in Pathein township, Ayeyawady region.
The Union minister highlighted the ministry’s efforts to establish forest plantations, aiming to enhance the country’s forest cover and fulfil national responsibilities for forest restoration. Additionally, he stressed the need to actively implement the creation of protected forests and forest reserves, preserve mangroves, protect ecosystems and biodiversity, and establish village firewood plantations for local communities. — TWA/MKKS
