Myanmar has taken relaxation measures to promote foreign tourist interest in the country, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
U Hla Myint, deputy permanent secretary of MOHT, said the ministry had organized familiarization trips (Fam Trip). Furthermore, while they are working to develop domestic tourism, they are also taking measures like visa relaxation and exemption to promote the entry of foreign visitors, he said.
“Visa on arrival has been arranged for visitors from China and India. Visas and e-visas are also being issued by relevant authorities like the immigration department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Visa exemption has been granted to Russians. We are considering more relaxations,” he explained.
Fam trips for Russians and Thais were organized in October and November respectively and another Fam trip for Chinese tourists is planned for January 2024, inviting about 40 people including media personnel, influencers, bloggers and tourism actors, with a tour package to Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan.
More than one million foreigners visited Myanmar from January to November and those from China and Thailand topped in the list of visitors, he added.
