K10.44 bln worth of drugs, prohibited chemicals seized in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Sagaing

The Police Force seized over K10.44 billion worth of drugs and restricted chemicals in Nay Pyi Taw council territory, Mandalay, and Sagaing regions, according to the Myanmar Police Force. Acting on a tip-off, a combined team, consisting of members of the Anti-Drug Police Force, searched a Chenglong tipper truck driven by Tin Zaw Latt, accompanied by Kyaw San Htay, in Lewe township at 7 pm on 1 December and seized 4,200,000 stimulant tablets. According to the investigation, the Police Force arrested Htan Kho Htay, who is in charge of drug transportation, at 11 pm on the same day at a hotel in Chanayethazan township of Sagaing region. The police seized a Toyota Land Cruiser car used in the transportation of drugs, along with K120.2 million in cash from his house in Hmawbi township.
Similarly, the police arrested Win Aung, connected with drug transportation in Chanayethazan township at 4 am on 2 December, with 1.8 million stimulant tablets and a Toyota Prado car. Afterwards, the police arrested Than Than Htun (aka) Ah Sai with 176,000 stimulant tablets, 8.8 kilogrammes of heroin, and a Super Custom in Patheingyi township at 10 am on December 5, and Ma Lar Sanku Mie with 3.2 tonnes of the prohibited chemical Caffeine in Kalay township at 3:30 pm on 9 December.
Offenders admitted not only to transporting the seized drugs from Shan State to Mandalay and Yangon by organizing a drug smuggling gang but also to transporting the seized restricted chemicals from Kalay to Shan State. The police have taken legal action against the offenders, and an investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators of the crime chain. — MNA/MKKS
