As tourism promotion activities unfold in Magway Region, Kyundaw Village in Taungkhun Village tract, Magway Township, is planned to be established as the third Community-based Tourism (CBT) site, according to U Zaw Lwin Htet, director of the regional Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
Kyundaw Village, situated 30 miles from Magway, is an island village in the Ayeyawady River with just over a hundred houses. Currently, the local community and villagers are undergoing training in tourism services, with additional knowledge-sharing programmes on tourism management planned for the future.
“Kyundaw Village will be the third CBT site in Magway Region. We encourage local communities to actively participate in the programme, as CBT inherently requires voluntary cooperation from the public for success.
We provide necessary training and knowledge-sharing sessions, and efforts are underway to secure permissions from the township-level administrative body and the regional tourism working committee,” said U Zaw Lwin Htet.
He further mentioned that the area boasts 26 ancient Buddhist temples and stupas that remain undamaged, along with some collapsed ones. Visitors can explore Bagan-era mural paintings in PhaungdawU Pagoda, and the overall scenery resembles the topography of Bagan. The Shwezigon Pagoda features numerous tunnels, and visitors, both local and foreign, can unwind at the beach-like landscape along the riverbank adjacent to the island. — ASH/ TMT
