Yangon faces traffic woes due to prolonged delays at petrol stations

Vehicle owners reported heavy traffic jams due to prolonged waiting times for fuels at most petrol stations. Starting from the morning of 5 December, vehicles in the Yangon Region have experienced extended waiting periods to purchase fuels.
U Nay Lin Tun, an employee at the Bayintnaung warehouse, told The Global New Light of Myanmar (GNLM) that he observed placards stating, “The bowsers have not arrived yet,” with numerous vehicles waiting for fuels in front of the stations. A resident also mentioned traffic jams along Bayintnaung Road and Thanthuma Road, where petrol stations are located.
U Aung Ko, a taxi driver from South Okkalapa Township, shared with the GNLM, “Cars have to wait from early morning until 6 pm. Drivers are also consulting each other on social media about where to find fuels for their vehicles.”
Due to delays in oil delivery from Thilawa Port to filling stations, there is an insufficient supply of fuels. This shortage is causing difficulties for highway trucks needing to return to their respective towns and obtain diesel. If this situation persists, it could negatively impact highway cargo transport. — TWA/TRKM
