The oysters and leopard coral groupers from Yanbye Township of Kyaukphyu District of Rakhine State are mainly transported to the Yangon Region, according to U Khin Maung Aye who runs oyster and leopard coral grouper farms.
The breeding of oysters and leopard coral groupers is conducted for commercial purposes in Yanbye Township and the products are distributed to hotels, motels and restaurants in Yangon Region.
“We operated the oyster and leopard oral grouper farms in 2018-2019. We mainly run six types of marine-related businesses. We sell lobster, mantis shrimp and soft-shell crabs. We have to breed the soft-shell crab for 45 days and transport them to cold storage plants in Kyaukphyu. The adult oysters and leopard oral groupers are transported to hotels and restaurants in Yangon and at Ngapali beach and marine wholesale centres,” he said.
The price is K1500-K2500 per oyster while the soft-shell crab fetches K14,500 per kilogramme and K4,000-13,000 when it weighs under one kilogramme. The lobster and mantis shrimp are priced at K150,000 and the leopard coral groupers get K65,000-K70,000 per kilogramme.
