Myanmar handicraft stores will be opened to revive the market in promotion areas of shopping centres in Yangon Region, according to U Thardu, patron of Myanmar’s Arts and Crafts Association.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Myanmar’s products made of timber, cane and bamboo were seriously hit, and the business restarted in 2022 but it is still struggling.
“Although our businesses was the worst situation during the COVID-19 period, it is not in good condition. It runs in its proper momentum. Last two years, Thai officials invited us to the Thai Myan Trade Fair and so we displayed Myanmar handcrafts with six booths. That was their very first fair after COVID-19 so it was not crowded with visitors. But they have a stable market and they regain their market potential. We do not stand still and we are struggling. We arrange to promote the market by opening the galleries at promotion areas of Junction Square, Junction City, Junction 8 and Myanmar Plaza in Yangon,” he said.
Although there are invitations to international trade fairs to introduce Myanmar’s handicrafts, the people have to consider their accommodation charges, booth rental fees and causes of low sales. — ASH/KTZH
