The construction of Sasana Beikman and expansion of the platform of SoonU Ponnyashin Pagoda located atop Sagaing Hill in Sagaing Region will be completed in October, according to the board of trustees.
The construction and expansion projects were started on 9 September 2022 and the completion date is projected for 29 October 2023 (full moon of Thadingyut), said U Ko Lay, a member of the board of Trustees.
“We expand the pagoda platform and pavilion for the pilgrims from various regions to stay overnight. We also construct subterranean buildings under the Sasana Beikman. It is a four-storey building. The platform of the pagoda is going to be expanded to 149 feet in length and 63 feet in width,” said U Ko Lay.
The Buddha Pujaniya festival of the SoonU Ponnyashin pagoda is held on the fullmoon day of Waso (Dhamma Cakka Day) yearly and the religious organizations in Sagaing present alms offerings at the pagoda on that day.
