Asian Games: Myanmar to compete in 200-metre traditional boat race event

Myanmar traditional boat team will join the opener of the XIX Asian Games 200-metre traditional boat race event this week. Six events are included in the traditional boat race (Dragon Boat) competition which will run from 4 to 6 October.
According to the fixtures, Men’s 200-metre 12 rowers event and women’s 200-metres 12 rowers event will be launched on 4 October while men’s 500-metre 12 rowers event and women’s 200-metre 12 rowers event will be held on 5 October.
Next, the men’s 1,000-metre 12 rowers event and the women’s 200-metre 12 rowers event will kick-start on 6 October. A total of 28 Myanmar rowers including 14 males and 14 females will compete in all six events of the race.
This is the third time the sport has been introduced, the first time being at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and the second time at the 2018 Indonesian Asian Games.
The Myanmar traditional boat team has competed the last two times, winning three silver medals in the 2010 competition, but missing out on a medal in the 2018 competition. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
