The opening ceremony of a Seminar Programme on Capacity Building for Rules of Origin of the Upgraded ASEAN — China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) jointly organized by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER) and Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), People’s Republic of China, was held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Dr Wah Wah Maung, Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, delivered the welcoming remarks. She outlined that the seminar is aimed to introduce regulations under the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, to enhance the knowledge of departmental staff regarding product-specific regulations and Original Certificate Forms, to improve operational certification processes, to understand native regulations, and to promote trade facilitation. In addition, she also expressed that the seminar was jointly organized by MIFER and the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) since MIFER is the focal point for economic cooperation with MOFCOM.
AIBO Vice-President Mr Lei Hao then made an introductory remark and Mr Ouyang Daobing, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of China, delivered the opening remarks.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and Ministry of Commerce, representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Yangon, experts and representatives from AIBO, and 35 officials from relevant ministries were present. The seminar will be held until 15 September 2023.
MOFCOM provides multi-sectoral seminar programmes on capacity development for government officials from developing countries. More than 400 Myanmar officials participated up to October 2023. — MIFER
