In NyaungU Township, Mandalay Region, heavy rainfall caused inundation at the platforms of Ananda Temple and Shwezigon Pagoda, according to the Myanmar Fire Brigade.
Yesterday, 2.87 inches of rainfall led to inundation at Shwezigon Pagoda and Ananda Temple platform, as reported by the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan Branch).
NyaungU district/Township fire station, firefighters from various Bagan area fire stations, along with personnel from relevant organizations and in cooperation with the members of the relevant pagoda board of trustees pumped out the water from the platform.
“Platforms of Shwezigon and Ananda pagodas were slightly inundated. So, water was drained out by pump. Some channels to the water collection tanks were blocked. We will repair them”, said an official of the Bagan branch of the department.
On 24 June, inundation happened at 15 ancient temples and pagodas. The Department of Archaeology and Ethnic Museum (Bagan Branch) is currently conducting research in the affected areas in cooperation with relevant departments. — TWA/KZW
