1,464 prisoners including foreigners released from Insein prison

The Government has granted amnesty for 1,464 prisoners, including foreigners, from Insein prison in commemoration of the full moon day of the Second Waso and on humanitarian grounds.
Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Win Tint and Minister for Transport Commander of Yangon Region Police Force Police Brig-Gen Myo Min Htike of Yangon Region Government delivered speeches to 1,464 inmates at the gymnasium of the Insein Prison.
The released prisoners included 1,196 male prisoners, 144 female prisoners, 13 male foreign prisoners, one female foreign prisoner, 74 Bengali male prisoners and 36 Bengali female prisoners, and they were freed on the condition that, if they committed offences again, they would have to serve not only the sentence for it but also for the remaining sentences. Foreign prisoners were deported.
In addition, 34 prisoners from Shwe Thahtay camp, 17 from Tawgyitan camp, 33 from Hlayhlawinn camp, 62 from Aingkalaung camp, 45 from Aung Chantha camp and 23 from Mingone camp were also released and they were given travel expenses. — Nyein Thu (MNA)/KZW
