Bagan-NyaungU Ancient Cultural Zone unveils seven new travel destinations

Some homegrown tourists and foreigners are enjoying the beauty of the sunset in Bagan and taking photos.

The Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (DHT) in Bagan announced the development of seven captivating travel destinations within the Bagan-NyaungU Ancient Cultural Zone, aiming to entice both domestic and international tourists.
The newly introduced tour destinations include Tuyin Hill, and Zee-U-Hla Village’s boasting nine tamarind trees, each approximately 900 years old, and an ancient iron furnace dating back to the 1st century AD. Other attractions are Set-Set-Yo Village, offering an enriching cultural experience, Hiking Trip near Mount Popa, providing breathtaking natural vistas, Myinkaba Village, offering mesmerizing sunset views, Gemoe Pond Tour, and a Community-Based Trip to Shwenant Mountain, providing unique insights into local life.
While the arrival of domestic tourists to the Bagan-NyaungU Ancient Cultural Zone has increased, the total number of visitors remains at about 20 per cent of pre-COVID-19 levels.
As per the statistics of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (MoHT), Myanmar welcomed 0.233 million foreign tourists in 2022, reflecting a remarkable 78 per cent increase compared to 2021. By May 2023, the influx of foreign visitors surpassed 400,000, with a significant number coming from China, Thailand, Korea, Japan, India, Vietnam, the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, and China (Taipei) .
To further boost foreign tourism, efforts are underway to enhance cooperation not only with the governments of these countries but also with international organizations like the World Tourism Organization, aiming to access new tourism markets and attract more tourists from across the globe. —TWA/CT
