The Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Ministry of Health found 15 unregistered products including cosmetics containing prohibited chemicals in the market, according to a release issued by the department.
Inspectors from the Cosmetics Section of the department brought the unregistered products to their attention. After careful examinations, official found the prohibited chemicals that are detrimental to health of consumers. FDA has already notified that the public should not use the above products.
The banned chemicals found in 15 aforementioned products can lead to itching, inflammation, rashes, muscle dumbness, muscle tremor, fatigue, headache, depression, kidney failure and other illnesses, according to the FDA release.
Data released by the FDA shows that during the period between January and April 2023, permissions to distribute more than 1,500 items of imported cosmetics have been granted in Myanmar.
The companies that import cosmetics, wholesalers and retailers should practise industrial ethics and refrain from selling unregistered products and those prohibited by FDA, the release stated. And those who fail to comply with the above terms can be sued under article (3), Clause (3) (d) of the Public Health Law. — TWA/TH
