Illegal trade eradication teams make significant seizures worth millions

A combined team managed by the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections near Shwethanlwin Tollgate on 21 July. They intercepted a Man tractor head and a trailer (estimated value of K70 million) travelling from Myawady to Yangon, carrying five kinds of goods worth K31,614,152, including 300 sets of Owl offline UPS that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID). The action was carried out following Customs procedures.
Likewise, a combined team supervised by the Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force intercepted a Nissan Diesel tractor head, a Tongya semitrailer, a Dongfeng tractor head, and a Yuchang semitrailer (approximate value of K114 million) heading to Mandalay from Muse, at the 23/6 Milepost on Mandalay-Lashio Road on 22 July. The vehicles were carrying 21 kinds of smuggled goods worth K114,309,720, including 2,700 kilogrammes of Lion Head food colour and 1,330 kilogrammes of castor oil, which exceeded the quantity mentioned in the Import Declaration (ID). The action was taken under Customs procedures.
The combined on-duty team conducted inspections at the Yepu permanent checkpoint and seized illegal goods worth K29.85 million, including 180 jade beads in various sizes, from a Toyota Mark II (estimated value of K25 million) on 23 July. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
As a result, a total of 10 arrests were made over three consecutive days from 21 to 23 July, with an estimated value of K384,773,872, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee’s report. — MNA/MKKS
