Lancang-Mekong Cooperation: A pragmatic mechanism for regional collaboration, affirms MoFA Deputy Minister

U Kyaw Myo Htut, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, hailed the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) as the most practical and effective mechanism for regional collaboration in the area. His remarks came during the Lancang-Mekong Unconventional Security Cooperation Conference held on 14 July in Yangon.
Deputy Minister U Kyaw Myo Htut highlighted the significant impact of the LMC on Myanmar, with numerous LMC Special Fund projects being successfully implemented in the country. These projects have contributed to Myanmar’s progress towards achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and have directly benefited the people. He further emphasized the LMC’s focus on non-traditional security cooperation.
The conference provided a platform for regional countries to engage in exchanges and cooperation on non-traditional security matters, aligning with current international and regional conditions. Myanmar, as the co-chair of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, expressed its active participation in the initiative, aiming to uphold peace and promote sustainable development in the region, added the Deputy Minister.
The conference comprised two sub-forums: “Combatting Online Crimes such as Online Gambling and Telecommunications Fraud” and “Food Security and Poverty Reduction in the Lancang-Mekong Region.”
