A total of 331 Myanmar workers were legally sent to the Republic of Korea through the Employment Permit System (EPS) on 29 June 2023, according to a statement from Myanmar’s Embassy in Seoul.
Those Myanmar workers are to be engaged in manufacturing industry and agriculture and livestock businesses, including 249 new workers and 82 experienced workers with re-entry permits.
This month, 150 Myanmar workers in the first batch, 146 in the second batch, 145 in the third batch and 147 in the fourth batch have been recruited in ROK.
Sending workers to the ROK resumed in August 2022 in the post-Covid-19 pandemic. At present, the government of South Korea is continuously recruiting new workers and experienced workers to increase the labour force.
South Korea will employ 110,000 migrant workers officially sent under the EPS from 16 countries in 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROK stated.
Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labour will also monitor the workers to prevent illegal stays which can affect the quota of labour demand sent under the EPS, the MOFA’s statement citing the remark of the Minister for Employment and Labour. — TWA/EM
