Nine Myanmar nationals who had fallen victim to trafficking in Thailand were repatriated to Myanmar through the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No 1 on 15 June.
The returnees, consisting of five males and four females, were officially recognized as human trafficking victims and had been under the care of centres operated by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in Thailand. After completing the necessary legal procedures, including citizenship verification, officials from the Tak Province Immigration Department in Thailand facilitated their safe return.
During the handover ceremony, a representative from the Social Welfare Department of Thailand delivered a welcoming speech, while Staff Officer Daw Khin Nwe Nwe Yi from the Myawady reception centre, under the purview of the Rehabilitation Department, expressed gratitude in her response. Officials from both countries then exchanged the belongings and information related to the repatriated trafficking victims.
Myanmar’s responsible personnel have taken charge of escorting the victims to the Myawady reception centre, from where they will be further assisted in their journey back to their respective homes. — TWA/CT
