During the launch ceremony of the Intellectual Property Department’s lower Myanmar Branch Office in Yangon, the Union Minister for Commerce (MoC) announced that the MoC is undertaking steps to enforce the Industrial Design Property Law by the end of this year.
The Ministry has outlined a vision for the development of the copyright system and has already commenced official trademark registrations through application centres in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay, with the latest registration taking place on 26 April 2023.
Among the four property rights laws, the Trademark Law has already been put into effect. The Ministry of Commerce is actively working towards implementing the Industrial Design Property Law and the Literature and Art Property Law by the end of 2023, followed by the Intellectual Property Law in 2024. — TWA/MKKS
