More than US$40.98 million was earned from the export of fishery products between 1 April and 12 May of the 2023–2024 financial year, according to statistics of the Ministry of Commerce.
Fishery products from Myanmar are exported to foreign countries through normal trade and border trade channels.
Although the export of fishery products is being carried out as normal, the export has not returned to the status of the pre-Covid period. Over $64.07 million was collected from the export of fishery products in the same period of the last financial year.
Fishery products such as fish, shrimp, and crab are regularly exported to China, Thailand, and other neighbouring countries through border trade posts in Muse, Myawady, Kawthoung, Sittway, Myeik, and Maungtaw.
In addition to 480,000 fish and shrimp farms, there are more than 120 cold storage facilities across Myanmar, and over 20 kinds of fish such as Illish, Barramundi, Rohu, Swamp Barb, and Gagata gagata are being exported. — TWA/CT
