Rapid Response Team, special medical team offer healthcare services in timely manner in Mocha-hit areas

The Ministry of Health has made preparations regarding healthcare services by organizing coordination meetings daily with health officials since it received news of a storm to occur in the Bay of Bengal. It also provided healthcare services and rehabilitation activities in addition to the safety of health workers and patients across the nation as quickly as possible after the storm.
It also sent the RRT, special medical teams and medics to the Mocha-hit areas starting 15 May.
Currently, 10 medical teams that included specialists from the University of Medicine 1 and 2Yangon arrived in Sittway and they provided healthcare services at the monasteries, nunneries and wards of Sittway.
Moreover, eight RRTs arrived in Minbya township of Rakhine State while two teams in Rathedaung, seven teams in Ponnagyun, two teams in Pauktaw and three teams in Yanbye township to conduct healthcare services together with township health staff. They also added chlorine into the water tanks, lakes and wells to prevent diarrhoea for the public. Moreover, they conducted education programmes about the installation of water purification systems, health awareness programmes and treated injured persons, made medical checks and sent the patients to public hospitals if necessary.
The special medical team comprising specialists of Maungtaw Township also provided health services in Donepike village of Rathedaung Township on 17 May. The special medical teams will keep providing health services in the townships of Rakhine State. — MNA/KTZH
