Day temperatures persist increasing
Tamu in Sagaing Region hit the record highest temperature on 18 April reaching 43.8 degrees Celsius and surpassing the previous record held for 44 years.
According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology on 30 April, Magway Region in central Myanmar recorded the highest temperature of 43 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperature in Nay Pyi Taw was 40 degrees Celsius, while Yangon Region (Kaba Aye) registered 41 degrees Celsius, respectively. The rising day temperatures ranged between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Man drowns after swimming in Ayeyawady River
A man drowned in the Ayeyawady River while swimming under the Yadanapon Bridge in Tagong Ward of Sagaing Township on 29 April.
Social assistance groups collaborated with relevant organizations to carry out search and rescue operations at the incident location. Thukhakari social welfare association transported the body that was found at 1 pm to the 200-bed hospital.
Rising cases of Covid Omicron infection
According to the Ministry of Health, more than 300 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 as of 24 April with one casualty. A total of 48,084 laboratory samples were examined within the week and 327 were infected with the virus.
The increasing Omicron variant cases in Myanmar have been reported since the post-Thingyan period, totalling almost 500 from 19 to 29 April.
Request to allow legal export of frozen meat to China
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation has proposed a formal request for legal exports of frozen beef, mutton and duck to China.
The discussion was held between the Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister U Min Naung and Chinese Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Mr Ma Youxiang at the ASEAN-China Forum on Digital Agriculture.
Coconut shells transformed into artistic products
A plan is underway to produce and export artistic products made from coconut shells, according to the Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization of the Ministry of Commerce.
The project will be implemented from 1 May 2023 to 30 April 2024 based in Ayeyawady Region where raw materials from coconuts are abundantly available.
Indonesia to purchase rice from Myanmar in 2023-2024 FY
Indonesia will buy large numbers of tonnes of rice from Myanmar in the 2023-2024 financial year, according to the Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization with the Ministry of Commerce.
The National Food Procurement Organization of Indonesia stated that they will purchase up to three million tonnes of rice from Myanmar, Viet Nam, Thailand, Pakistan and India with two million tonnes as the first priority.
