Yangon Region to install Smart Metre System at 500 city taxis

According to the Yangon Region Public Transport Committee-YRTC, a pilot project will be launched to install the Smart Metres at 500 city taxis operating in Yangon Region.
It aims to ensure safe and reliable rides at reasonable fares. Priority will be given to CNG-installed taxis at Yangon International Airport, a YRTC official stated.
Although the metre system was used in taxis in the past, drivers made the meter run in advance to raise taxi fares. This time, 500 taxis will be fitted with the Smart Metres, according to the YRTC. — TWA/KZW
