The Myanmar-China power system interconnection project will be implemented, according to the committee on the implementation of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor.
The project as part of CMEC led by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Energy will be developed and the implementation committee is assigned to cooperate with relevant departments in generating and delivering electricity, and oil and gas.
Currently, the implementation committee organizes the energy cooperation working group for the project. The group will be responsible to cooperate in CMEC-related electricity and energy sectors.
The committee is assigned by the State Administration Council to launch projects bringing benefits to the economic development of the two countries, exchange experiences and propose the major affairs for the development of the economic corridor.
China made the largest investments in Myanmar, especially in the electricity sector.
The 1,700-kilometre-long CMEC is a crucial part of China’s BRI. In the first phase of the economic corridor, it will connect the Kunming of Yunnan Province to Mandalay, the economic centre of Myanmar and then to Yangon to Kyaukpyu’s special economic zone.
Kyaukpyu plays a key role for CMEC and the economics of the Rakhine State will develop more. In the new era, China is willing to build a community with a shared future and work together in all sectors of Myanmar ensuring deep cooperation between China and Myanmar, said the Chinese ambassador to Myanmar during the opening ceremony of the recycle power station on 10 October 2022. —TWA/KTZH
