Over 100 traffic accidents occur on Yangon-Mandalay expressway within 9 months

A total of 123 car accidents happened on the Yangon-Mandalay expressway within nine months, according to the Nay Pyi Taw Expressway Police Force office. Altogether 118 people – 114 men and four women – were prosecuted for the accidents that occurred between January and September 2022.
The office released a notice that the reasons behind highway accidents were as follows: speeding, drowsy driving, pedestrian negligence, riding motorcycles, reckless driving, flat tyres, mechanical failures. etc.
According to statistics of the Nay Pyi Taw Expressway Police Force office, there were seven dead and 13 injured in nine accidents in January, 12 dead and 12 wounded in 20 accidents in February, four deaths and 16 injuries in four accidents in March, three killed and 32 injured in 13 accidents in April, four dead and 37 wounded in 15 accidents in January, four casualties and 19 injuries in 12 accidents in June, four deaths and 37 wounds in 15 accidents in July, three dead and 9 injured in 13 accidents in August, and four casualties and nine wounds in 11 accidents in September. — TWA/GNLM
