According to the local farmers in Shan State, the corn price is decreasing, and the price is around K700 per viss while the dried corn price is around K980.
“Prices are going down now,” said a corn farmer.
Currently, September is the season when corn starts to be produced, and the price has reached below K700, which is unreasonable due to the rising agricultural inputs this year, farmers said.
At the beginning of 2022, the price of corn only reached the highest level of around K1,050.
The price of clean corn (corn that can be exported abroad) that must have a moisture content of (14.5 per cent) is K1,100 in the Yangon market, K1,020 in the Mandalay Industrial Zone and K990 in the Nawnghkio market, according to market reports in Yangon and Mandalay.
In Shan State, the price of raw corn at the beginning of September was around K870, and at the end of the month, the price was around K700, and the dried corn price was around K980.
At present, there is a small amount of corn exported to China, and the Thai side has blocked the import of corn. As it can only be imported from February 2023, the market is in a state of monitoring, according to business people. – TPT/GNLM
