MoHT Union Minister attends Seminar on ASEAN-Korea Culture and Tourism

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung attended the ASEAN-Korea Culture and Tourism seminar under the title of “Creating Sustainable and Responsible Tourism with Digital Technology” organized by the ASEAN-Korea Centre, the ASEAN Secretariat, Korea Tourism Organization and Travie Magazine online yesterday.
At the seminar, Secretary General Mr Kim Hae-yong of the ASEAN-Korea Centre delivered a keynote address on the global COVID-19 impact on tourism and other sectors, challenges encountered in trying to revive tourism after COVID-19, and tourism cooperation between ASEAN and Korea and the establishment of sustainable tourism through the use of digital technology.
Mr Ahn Young-bae of the Korea Tourism Organization said building sustainable tourism through the use of digital technology and cooperation between ASEAN and Korea for future tourism development. Chairman Mr Sergio Guerreiro of the Tourism Committee of the OECD discussed the importance of digital technology, implementation of the OECD tourism sector, factors to consider when formulating tourism policies, essential roles of ministries, opportunities, benefits and challenges available through the use of digital technology.
Experts from respective fields discussed the digital transformation results through the experience of coping with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of sustainable tourism in developing resilient future tourism.
The seminar is held from 26 to 27 April to develop a strategic plan for smart tourism in the reopening of ASEAN-Korea tourism and enabling ASEAN and Korea to work together digitally for digital tourism. — MNA
