The opening ceremony of the 50th Myanmar Health Research Congress was virtually organized in Yangon yesterday.
First, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered an opening speech via video message.

Then, Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win said according to the guidance of SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, it should make efforts to expand the research culture among the health workers and the researchers should follow the research ethics accordingly. Holding the research congresses successively can improve health awareness and healthcare standards and the health experts who apply the research practically can discuss. It can also support the promotion of Myanmar’s healthcare.
The current congress was conducted under the theme of Response to COVID-19 in Myanmar: Reflection after the Third Wave to highlight the efforts of the Health Ministry under the guidance of the SAC, supports of private sectors and public participation in the fight against the third wave of COVID-19.
The seminars will be also held by researchers and experts from their respective fields and it will bring benefits to the public healthcare and medical sectors.
Then, Director-General Prof Dr Zaw Than Tun of the Department of Medical Research delivered a greeting speech.
Afterwards, the video clips of the retired Directors-General, who developed the Department of Medical Research, honouring the Golden Jubilee were played and the officials took commemorative photos.
Then, the inauguration of statutes of Prof Dr Mya Tu and Prof Dr Aung Than Ba Tu, who initially developed the department, to mark the 50th Myanmar Health Research Congress was held and attended by the directors-general of departments concerned under the Ministry of Health, rectors, medical researchers, paper researchers and local/foreign experts online.
At noon, officials continued the discussion under the topic of the Symposium on Experiences encountered during the Third Wave of COVID-19 in Myanmar. Deputy Minister for Health Prof Dr Aye Tun, Director-General Prof Dr Soe Lwin Nyein (retired) of the Public Health Department presided over the event and officials from different fields such as infectious disease, lab tests, treatment and hospital management clarified the activities and experiences in undertaking the COVID-19 preventive measures during the third wave.
The congress will be held from 21 to 25 February. About 400 researchers from local and foreign, including experts from the ROK and the Philippines, join the event and will read out 69 research papers and 27 research posters.
The four prizes for the best Basic Research, Applied Research, Health Systems Research and one best poster will be awarded and a young researcher award will be also presented. — MNA
