Migratory birds settle in at Meiktila Lake (South)

The migratory birds such as Spoonbills, Black-winged stilt, Grey-headed swamphen and Eurasian coot can be seen in these areas of Meiktila.

Migrating birds start arriving in Meiktila Lake (South) this year.
The various species of migratory birds that spend winter in the Meiktila region yearly have been arriving at Meiktila Lake (North) by the end of December and early January. But they inhabited Meiktila Lake (South) recently. Most of the migratory birds to south lake mainly at the lake near Paukchaung Ward and also at the same place this year. We can see some migrating birds near the lake beside Luukhingyi and Nwasantaung villages at the southern part of Meiktila Lake in addition to Paukchaung Lake’s bund Road, said Ko Yan Naing Hla, the bird watcher.
In Meiktila Lake (North), the migratory birds winter at the wetlands in the northern part of Nantawgon Ward, Kalamakyun, Oakhneboke, Innpatlet, Kyaukpyugon and Ywama villages this year. The Meiktila officials conduct educative programmes to prevent the killing of migratory birds. The migratory birds such as Spoonbills, Black-winged stilt, Grey-headed swamphen and Eurasian coot can be seen in these areas of Meiktila.— Chan Tha (Meiktila)/GNLM
