Cotton plants thriving in more than 5,500 acres of croplands in Pakokku Township

A total of 5,550 acres of various cotton plants including long staple cotton were cultivated in Pakokku Township, Magway Region last financial year 2020-2021, Pakokku Township Agriculture Department stated.
The majority of the sown acreage is under long staple cotton plants which are high yielding variety and is also compatible with the region. About 1,981,350 viss (a viss is equal to 1.6 kg) of cotton have been harvested so far starting from September.
During the cotton season of the FY 2022-2023, a total of 3,373 acres of Mahlaing strain, 2,773 of Wagyi strain and 5,879 acres of long staple cotton are projected in Pakokku Township, totalling 12,025 acres of cotton, said U San Lwin, head of Pakokku Township Agriculture Department.
This year, 60,962 acres of paddy, 131,738 acres of pulses and beans, 201,042 acres of edible oil crops, 19,196 acres of maize, 412 acres of kitchen crops and 5,550 acres of cotton have been cultivated.
