Union Minister for Industry meets pharmaceuticals, medical devices manufacturers in Yangon

Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than met officials from Myanmar Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Manufacturers Association at the Pharmaceuticals Factory (Insein) Conference Hall, Insein Township, Yangon Region on 8 October.
During the meeting, the Union Minister called for cooperation for the development of the pharmaceuticals sector.
“Basic medicines and other essential medicines and medical supplies required for the health care of the country shall be produced as per GMP Guidelines,” the Union Minister said.
“Preparations must be made to produce the necessary medicines for the country in case of emergency. By producing imported medicines and medical supplies, the flow of foreign currency can be reduced.
Efforts must be made to produce new and more drugs for the public.
In Myanmar, only 10 per cent of the demand for medicines and medical supplies is produced and the rest of the medicines are imported.
We must cooperate to find solutions to the challenges encountered in carrying out our work.
The Ministry of Industry is assisting the development of private sector businesses, and if there is a need for the development of the pharmaceutical sector, we will assist. We must work together in a way that benefits all members,” the Union Minister added.
The Union Minister called on the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers to report any problems they face.
Next, U Zaw Moe Khaing, Chairman of the Myanmar Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Manufacturers Association, spoke about the operation and explained the difficulties and market conditions. — MNA
