Myanma Railways (MR) under the Ministry of Transports and Communications operates rail transportation services from Yangon as usual during the third wave of COVID-19 as per the stipulated health rules, according to Yangon Railway Station.
Resumed service as normal
“During the third wave of COVID-19, we, MR runs the trains as usual for the people. We do not change any train schedules of Yangon railway station during this period but change the dates for some schedules. It depends on the number of passengers. If the infection rate declines and people normally go out, the train services will be the same like before. However, the 1-up and 2-down trains running along Yangon-Mandalay railway are being operated daily as before. Similarly, the Bago-Yangon train and Insein-Okkan train offer service daily,” said an official of Yangon railway station.

Train services
The 63-up and 64-down trains on Yangon-Pyay route run once two days, and also the 89-up and 90-down trains on Yangon-Mawlamyine route. Moreover, the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw and Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon trains run every other day. The Yangon-Mandalay and Mandalay-Yangon trains operate daily.
Saving costs
“The train services are more convenient for the basic level people like us during this period. The charges are not so high. Although the buses run currently, we have to pay for two seats. So, it is not convenient for us. Although the duration of taking trains and bus are different, I prefer taking trains for normal trips. We can get fresh air and save the cost. So, the train services are good for us,” said a passenger from Yangon to Pyay.
The trains from the Yangon railway station operate the services normally and they will not suspend even in early July (COVID-19 third wave).
Therefore, the MR offers safe train services to the passengers as per the COVID-19 health rules, according to MR.—Myint Mo/GNLM
