7 domestic airports to undergo upgrades this FY

Upgrading works for seven domestic airports will commence this financial year 2024-2025 beginning 1 April, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
Those domestic airports are Mawlamyine, Thandwe, PutaO, Tachilek, Hanthawady, Myeik and Kawthoung airports. The upgrading of the runway and fencing will be undertaken.
The airport runway will be approximately extended to 9,000 feet in length and 150 feet in width from an 8,000 feet long and 150 feet wide runway.
The upgrading work at PutaO Airport in Kachin State will tar the 8,500-foot long and 100-foot wide runway. Airport security fencing will be done at Tachilek Airport.
Similarly, Mawlamyine Airport will be upgraded with 15,450 feet long and six feet high airport security fences. Hanthawady Airport in Bago Region, being developed on 9,690.4 acres of land, will have 3,400-foot long and 10-foot high airport fences.
Additionally, tarring the 9,000-foot by 200-foot runway of Myeik Airport and the 6,000-foot by 150-foot runway of Kawthoung Airport will add AC power installation. — TWA/KK
