53 domestic dogs were vaccinated against rabies on 23 July in Kyaikto township, Mon state, after rabies virus was found in Thayetkone village, according to the Township Health Department, the Ministry of Health.
When the officials from the township veterinary and health departments inspected Thayetkone village on 19 July, where a rabies death had occurred, they found the symptoms of rabies, which were confirmed after laboratory testing in Yangon.
The Public Health Department of Kyaikto township and the Township Veterinary Department jointly held a lecture on the prevention of rabies on 23 July at Kyuchaung village basic education high school.
The officials, including U Tun Nyi Nyi, health assistant (1), explained on rabies disease, its causes and dangers in pets, and signs in infected people.
Afterwards, 53 domesticated dogs raised by the villagers were given rabies vaccinations at home and leaflets on rabies prevention were distributed.
Thanks to these efforts, the authorities were able to prevent further rabies infections, and people who have pets are advised to consult with knowledgeable experts to get the necessary vaccinations for their animals.
