4 Chinese, 17 Myanmar nationals nabbed in online scam crackdown

In a major crackdown on online fraud, a combined security team from the Myanmar Police Force arrested four Chinese nationals and seventeen Myanmar nationals involved in a fraudulent online money scam. The arrests took place on 18 August 2024, at approximately 4:30 pm in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region.
The suspects were apprehended at a residence located on 27th Street, between 65th and 66th Street, in the Pyigyimyatmhan Ward. The raid was conducted following reports that the individuals were engaging in online scams. They found Yanlong, aged 28, two other Chinese men and a Chinese woman and Myanmar nationals: 10 men and six women, including Ye Myint aged 20 (father U Youk Soup), from Htunsan Village, Laukkai Township in Shan State. The homeowner, Daw Sanda, was also identified.
During the operation, authorities discovered and seized a variety of equipment used for fraudulent activities. This included four sets of computers, two laptops, one 5BB Broadband Wi-Fi device, three Ruijie Regee Wi-Fi extenders, and other related materials.
The suspects, including Yanlong, two other Chinese men, one Chinese woman, ten Myanmar men and six Myanmar women along with Ye Myint, and the homeowner, Daw Sanda, are currently facing legal action under the Electronic Transactions Law, Section 33(a)/38. The case is being handled by the Chanayethazan Township’s No 3 Police Station, which is conducting further investigations. — MNA/KZL
