3 women sentenced to prisons, labour camps in human trafficking cases

Courts passed sentences on three women criminals who committed separate cases of trafficking in persons in Ayeyawady delta and Shan State last month.
Police filed lawsuits under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law against Ma Naing, 52, and Ma Su Hlaing,49, in Kyaunggon Town of Ayeyawady Region, for their plot to sell the two women in their 25s and 30s living in the same town as the wives for Chinese men after taking them along Yangon-Muse road to Ruili or Shwe Li although the two victims were enticed with jobs for K200,000 per month at a textile shop in Yangon.
Pathein District Court handed down sentences of 20 year in prisons and labour each on the two human smugglers on 23 December.
A 26-year old woman, identified as Ma Na Phue, from Mongpyan Town in Special Region 2, Shan State, persuaded the two girls in their 20s in Kenglat Town in Tachileik Township to marry men in neighbouring China in exchange of cash for their parents.
Police from Kenglat Town filed a lawsuit under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law against Ma Na Phue, and the Tachileik District Court pronounced the verdict of 10-year prison and labour on 23 December.—MNA(Translated by Aung Khin)
